It’s been about 20 years since the introduction to the NES Zapper/light gun. Other great game peripherals including the Power Pad and the not-so-great Power Glove are among the classic devices that changed the way we play games. Here’s a look at a few little-known Nintendo-specific peripherals and games this year that may change how we enjoy playing games 20 years later.
Can-you Kan-ji?
The DS Stylus-turned-calligraphy pen could not have been a more obvious choice. The DS Bimoji Training game comes with a special stylus shaped like a calligraphy brush to teach players techniques on writing kanji on the DS. Released in early March of 2008, the bundle is difficult to find unless you live in Japan.
Wii Spray? Yes Way!
Although Wii Spray is still in the early stages of development, soon you’ll be able to digitally create street art over the virtual walls across the world through the nozzle of a spray can. This novel device simulates the use of a spray can without the toxic fumes and the resulting headaches that come along with it. Graffitists can thank Martin Lihs of Bauhaus-University in Germany for the mechanics behind this.
Nyko Gives You Wings!
Wing, the third-party wireless classic controller by Nyko Technologies, will be available in next month for the Wii. Old-school gamers can reminisce about sweaty hands gripping a classic controller over a game of Super Ghouls ‘n Ghosts, Super Street Fight II, or the upcoming Mega Man 9 from Capcom. Expect to pay about $29.99 in October if you are all about this old-school gaming method with a wireless, ergonomic upgrade.
